historic neighborhood housewalk

Today we went on a housewalk in a historic neighborhood of a nearby city.  Here I am standing on the steps of the first (and smallest) house--a former "workers'" cottage.  Inside it was completely remodeled, bright and charming!
I felt more comfortable taking pictures in the yards and gardens.  There were so many beautiful outdoor "rooms" to see.  Rain interrupted our walk.  We plan to return tomorrow to finish.
Seeing so many incredible interiors inspired me to rearrange and repurpose some of our furniture.  I moved a large recliner away from this window and set up a couple of thrifted chairs around an end table that had set elsewhere.  I'm enjoying the window view as I work at my laptop here!  The mug, books, table and chairs were either garage sale or thrift store finds as were the curtains, curtain tiebacks, and floor lamp!

  1. I'm glad you were inspired...because now so am I. I have a table similar to that one that belonged to my grandmother that we had refinished several years ago....now I just need the right chair to make it into a "desk"!!! Thanks for the idea!

  2. What a neat walking tour! I'd have enjoyed that. I would love to have seen the interior of that worker's cottage, it looks bigger that our cottage.

I love your new set up in front of the window. I love the table and chairs a lot.

  3. Your own new arrangement is worth a tour. I so appreciate your blog, the attitude towards recycling things. Wish it would catch on more, as I believe our throw away world needs help in returning the the "real".

By the way, I made your crock potatoes this weekend and they are fantastic! I didn't think there was anything new for a crock pot! Out of necessity, I had to use frozen hash browns, but they worked well. My own might have been a little dry but I might have shorted them in time a tad. Thanks for this new dish.

  4. Oh, Bookie! I'm not sure we've met, but I'm going to find you and get more acquainted :)

I'm glad you were able to do something with the potatoes on your crock pot. I'm always trying new things in mine!

  5. FlowerLady, The cottage was sweet. It was very sparsely furnished - rented to a single young lady. Two small bedrooms, a nice living room opening to a dining area & kitchen...bath. Simple. Yours would suit me better. Cozier, I think. I liked the size of it, for sure!

  6. Deb, I saw this arrangement in front of the old paneling of a staircase. They had a drum table - with a center post/round top. I thought I had one but my husband reminded me that we sold it at a garage sale, so I'm making do with this one. I have a couple of chairs I'd happily give to you if you lived closer :)

  7. I think it's great you have such a lovely view out of the window while you are posting. I use my husband's computer, down in the man cave so NO view. Someday I'll be able to get my own laptop. The one I have is way outdated. Susan

  9. I think there's such a great thing when we do house remodelations and renovations. It makes the energy flow more natural and brings good vibes.
And what a cozy place it seems :)

And thank you so much for your comment.
    Have a nice sunday.

  11. Wow, Rebecca, I love your new look in front of that window. I feel kind of "stuck" with the way my furniture is arranged, but when I have a chance maybe I'll take another look around and try rearranging something too! Wish I could have been on that neighborhood walk with you...we love to do those kinds of things!
