pineapple "love"

It's on the workbench.  I've fashioned a part of a leaf that had broken off at the top out of some putty-type stuff my husband had on hand.  It was part of my $2.41 purchase documented in my prior post.  I am VERY excited about this "find".  While the repair dries, I'm trying to figure out what color to paint it.  Any suggestions?

  1. I think this would be pretty if you antiqued it, Rebecca...all one color perhaps a terra or tea-stain.

  2. Thanks, Jackie! I liked the tea-stain! I might be able to use an off white I have and wipe a glaze over it....

  3. Speaking of stain. Have you ever used Old English Scratch Cover Polish? I have used it to dull painted surfaces, especially on gold colored picture frames, that I have purchased at Goodwill. It works better on some surfaces than others. I test it on an inconspicuous place first. I always have the scratch cover polish on hand to use for its original purpose.

Your pineapple is going to look wonderful!

Don't you just love making a "silk purse out of a sow's ear"?

  4. Hi Rebecca....Wow! That's a sweet find. I think the white with glaze would be lovely. Where are you going to display it? Susan

  5. Great find. Isn't the pineapple known as a symbol of hospitality or something like that? I agree with the previous posters, paint plus stain. I think I'd go for a darkish gold paint, burnt sienna stain.

    1. Yes ("hospitality"), Darla. I really like architectural pieces and this feels a little bit like that.... I'm leaning toward a light cream colored base with a stain a bit darker....

    1. It's big, Jacque! I haven't measured it, but I'd guess close to 2 feet tall.

  8. I Love a good Salvage Surgical story where a Thrifty Diva like yourself resurrects a great piece with some TLC and ingenuity! Good job at the creative restoration! *Winks* I had to laugh out loud at your comment... though I shan't reveal all of my Secrets, yes, I always get a great Deal and favor. On this particular Trip I was actually Gifted by a Dear Friend with a Creation from a Favorite Designer... my Heart fairly stopped still! I'm an Artist too and often Gift or Trade my pieces and I truly believe that generosity always comes back around... reciprocity is a Divine Law after all... you reap whatever you sow.
