what was i thinking?

All thrifted, of course.
I tell myself, "This way, I can bake a pie and present it as a gift along with the pie plate."
The problem with that is:  I'm not a pie-baker.
What's bugging me is that I know I have at least one other--
a CorningWare piece that matches my other CorningWare.
(This train of thought started with a friend's facebook comment..

  1. Well that is quite the collection. Maybe the season for pie baking has not quite arrived yet, you never know what the future holds a family at church may need a pie....or a new neighbor!! ~You have some lovely treasures ~Love Heather

  2. Rebecca, you can always use a pie plate. Use it for other things other than pies. I always use things other than for their purpose!

    1. I need some ideas, Susan! Myra commented on the other blog that they use them for regular dinner plates! (I don't have any two that match though - except those two small tart plates...)

  3. I also have too many pie plates. I do make pies, but usually on holidays, or for my husband's birthday. Still, I certainly don't need more than two or three.

Regarding thrift store finds, for presenting a baked gift, in a container that doesn't have to be returned, I love to purchase covered cake plates. I especially like footed plates, with a cover. I have found several in the last few years at Goodwill. A neighbor recently had a death in her family, and I baked a pretty bundt cake and put it on the footed, covered, cake plate. I punched a hole in a corner of a small sympathy card, put a thin ribbon through the hole and tied it around the glass "knob" on the glass cover and took it to them, with a message and a P.S. that the cake plate didn't need to be returned. They really appreciated that. So often at a time of grief and stress, lots of food is received, and it is hard to remember who the dishes belong to.

  4. I suppose you could always pop a Mrs. Smith's into that plate and still give it to someone. I remember using the argument on my husband that I wanted a special pie plate because then I'd be able to bake him his favorite pie--peach. He bit... I have the pie plate, but I use it for a casserole dish. I don't think I've ever made the peach pie--I just give Mrs. Smith a call.

  5. Load them up with cookies and give as a gift. Solved :)
I prefer glass pie dishes and for baking bread.

  6. I love that you stated that what people really need is Jesus. And He loves it when we share ourselves with others, whether a pie, a kind word or something else.

I think you might be forgiven buying all of those pie pans. It's hard to know to buy or not to buy in the heat of the moment. And you have used your finds better than almost anyone. Blessings for a happy Valentine's Day.
