my apparent obsession

I'm not sure whether to show or hide my apparent obsession
with children's Golden Books (above)
and wooden puzzles (below).
This is only about 1/3 of my puzzle collection,
and there are probably close to 20 more Christmas-themed Golden Books
out in our Christmas cabin.
All of these items were purchased at thrift stores or garage sales
at extremely low prices.  Believe me!
Do you have any "apparent obsessions" with children's items?

  1. Oh my goodness! I love Golden Books too, particularly ones from my own childhood (I'm 65). However, my biggest obsession is composition dolls from the 20's and 30's. I could spend myself into poverty on them. I have named them. I dress them in real vintage baby clothes and have them sitting around my house in little rocking chairs, old doll carriages and even a child's high chair from the late 1800's that converts into a rocking chair. I can't help myself!

I love your blog and am so glad I discovered it!

  2. How nice to meet you, Molly!

I would LOVE your collection (and am kind of thankful I didn't get started with THAT one)! I do have a few doll houses though....and am always on the lookout for miniature pieces for it at ridiculously low prices :)

  3. I collect wooden puzzles. I kept the ones that belonged to my children when they were small. The puzzles are over 30 years old now, and ,y grandchildren play with them and love them. The puzzles of today are not made with the quality of the puzzles that I have, therefore, if I see them in good condition, I buy them.

  6. No obsessions but I do like the Golden books, though I don't have any since there are no little kiddos running around our house right now.

    1. None here, either, Terra.....but that didn't seem to stop me. The book shelf IS one of the first places our grandchildren head to when they are here - infrequently, since they all live several hours away...

  7. I also love the little Golden books, teddy bears, dolls, coloring books, crayons, anything having to do with arts and crafts, really. We don't have to stop enjoying these things just because we grow up. Life is serious and sometimes very hard, so why not enjoy simple pleasures like these?
I also have all of my Barbie and Ken things from my childhood including probably ten different dolls and little suitcases of clothes for them handmade by my sweet mother.

    1. Oh, Sandy! To have those Barbie/Ken clothes made by your mother is a REAL treasure. I just missed the Barbie stage (my sister's both had them - and my grandmother made some incredible clothes for them).

You're right. We don't have to stop enjoying these simple pleasures just because we've grown up :)

  8. I have a bunch of little Golden books from when I was a kid! The Pokey Little Puppy was a favourite. :)

I still have all my mom's Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drews and Trixie Belden books. Some of the Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drews are from the early 1900s!

  10. I too have a large collection of Golden Books Rebecca. And I'm still reading them to Jack. I also have several Christmas themed one's and Biblical story Golden books. I'm glad that I saved them through the years. Some of them were Frank and Ginny's!! I don't have any puzzles though. The pieces were all lost over the years. Love your collection!! Love Di ♥

  11. I commented about this on the post before this one. I don't know why I've been missing your posts, so sorry. But, I love children's books, they remind me of the happy years of being a kid, I had a very happy, carefree childhood. I was very blessed.

  12. I loved the Betsy Tacy books and I suppose that is my worst obsession! All the books came with me when I moved to FL. I've visited the town they lived in and have attended a convention with others who are obsessed.

  13. I adore Little Golden Books. Our daughter still has hers. She told me just recently that the bindings are no longer "golden", but silver now!!! Reminded me of me....cause I've turned silver with age, too!! ;-)
