almost free

Except for "a couple of screws" needed to fasten the seat,
this sweet bench was made entirely from free materials!
My husband spend several hours in the garage yesterday with some bedsteads we'd found
a few years ago in a trash pile on the curb.
The seat was made from boards salvaged from packing boards or pallets
being discarded outside of the old Borders store!
(He has enough material to make another one, too.)
I'm trying to decide what color to paint it.
I'm thinking "bright".
Any suggestions?????

  1. You certainly have a handy hubby!!! Looks great! I think I would paint it white (I know, not very bright), but then distress it and add some stain to tone it down!! Happy SONday, sweet Lady!

    1. I DO like white, Deb. It has entered my mind. I really need to think where I might place it before I decide on a color.....

  2. I love it natural, just the way it is, with some polyurethane on it. I guess it depends on where it will go though.
    It is wonderful!!!

    1. The back and "arms" are actually dull pink. That's how we found them. We DO like natural wood though. Don't know if I can ask him to strip it all down after all the work he's already done though...

  3. I think I would poly it and use it outside. I don't know where you plan to use it. Bright yellow on a porch would be good. I see this as a plant bench too. Ivy twining through the rods....

  5. I like what Bookie said, good ideas. I love a pretty yellow bench whether you use it inside or out. Gary did such a great job...again!

  6. Your husband is really talented, Rebecca.

That's a darling bench. I like the idea of yellow but I also think turquoise would be pretty, with a nice coordinating pillow on the seat.

Sure you'll come up with something. Take care and have a nice Monday! Susan

  7. Your clever husband recycled the parts very well. As you said, the color depends on where you want to use it. I do think a Bright Color of some sort would be great. BTW, the t.p. roll trick I promised earlier to show you in on my blog :-)

    1. He's made the second one - almost identical. I think we ARE going to paint one turquoise & the other white. We're going to donate one to a silent auction/benefit...maybe take them both and see which one gets the bid....
