calhoun street/claiborne dress

We're attending a convention in the Big Town near our small, unincorporated town.
The hotel is a short walk from my (formerly) Favorite Thrift Store.
The walk down Calhoun Street took me past the beautiful Botanical Gardens.
I stopped to take an up close look at The Muse
and marveled again at the beauty of The Cathedral
across the street.
A weed bloomed wistfully and wonderfully through the fence
bordering the viaduct  I passed under on my way.
Unfortunately (for me, at least), the prices at the thrift store
have risen to antique store prices.
However, clothes were 1/2 off, so I returned to the hotel
with this Liz Claiborne dress...well-constructed and comfortable.
$2.00!

  1. Oh! I LOVE that dress! What a find. Thrift prices around here are waaay up too. Still cheaper than retail, but I'm starting to think I may have to switch to garage sales. For some reason I cannot explain, I just don't like them.

  2. Wow, you did swell! I am afraid Thrift is going up as it is popular now. I am wondering if you are hearing all the negative press about Goodwill and what you think. I have only hit parts of it.

So hot here, but storm moving in. Since your area today was lovely, I hope it was not hot as well.

    1. Claudia, I gave up on Goodwill L-O-N-G ago. The thing is at my Former-Favorite-Thrift-Store, things are just piling up! I think others, like me, simply aren't able to pay those prices. So things aren't moving. I don't mind rummaging through things, but we're talking PILING up and spilling over.

  3. The dress is a winner so even if you didn't find anything else you still scored. Thrift stores here have had high prices for some time. I rarely go to one anymore. I will stop in a thrift store in one of the small towns we pass through if we are on the road. They seem to be more reasonable.

  4. Loved your photos, Rebecca. Just great.

The cathedral looks beautiful and the Botannical Garden sculptures are gorgeous!

You look lovely, too! Nice and slender.

    Have fun! Susan

  5. Another good find Rebecca. You really have a knack for bargains. You look lovely in your new dress. I still shop the Goodwill, and try to go there on Wed. which is sr. citizens day for the discount.

  7. Such a prettttty dress, Rebecca! A great price, too.
Thrift store prices have gone up here in California, too.
Not all thrift stores, but most. It is crazy! I find
a lot of the time that their prices are even MORE than those
at an antique store...and I'm an antique dealer.

    Happy Summer!

  8. I love the style of your dress. It is sad when the thrift shops out price themselves. Often these days the major stores sell new clothng at almost the same prices.
Love the look of the church and statues.
    Blessings to you
