Yesterday I had fun setting up the eating area of our kitchen
for a rather informal Salad & Dessert Luncheon.
In order to accommodate an unknown number of guests,
I slanted the main table in the room and put a tablecloth over the dropleaf
(shown "naked" above after the fact).
The room looked attractive to me, somehow...
so this morning while cleaning up, I snapped some photos.
I realize that most people would probably not place three tables in such a small space,
but it's what has "happened" here. And it feels quite homey to me.

I'm also aware that furniture in its natural or stained wood state is not in vogue,
but except for our curbside-found mantel and a few picture frames,
most everything we have retains its original wood tones.
As I look around, I mentally calculate how little money we've actually spent
in this room. The furniture and accessories have mostly been free, thrifted or gifted--
and we call it HOME.
Looks good to me. And I thought how great... they have at least three tables in there... Love it!!
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love the slant of the table. I wouldn't change it back!!
Lovely, Rebecca. Just lovely!!
Hi, Jackie! Thank you. And I probably won't (change it back) for awhile. We're kind of liking the look ourselves for a change.
DeleteYou home looks inviting and I think I would feel right at home there. Love your kitchen...while I like the painted look, I think the wood tones will have a less dated look over time. Something eternal about the look of a good grain of wood. Happy weekend...
ReplyDeleteI agree about the "over time" observation. I've lived long enough to see the trends come and go... I remember when everyone was using antiquing kits - a base of paint and then a glaze over it. That stuff was NASTY to remove when natural wood finishes were back...
DeleteI think everything looks warm and cozy, inviting, friendly. It's your home and you should decorate it just like you want.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks, Sandy! Warm and cozy is how I like it. Unlike many other people, I really DON'T have a conscious or intentional decorating scheme. It just kind of happens.
DeleteHello my friend I love your kitchen just as it is. It's a rare pleasure to see a whole room in your house!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very homey-comfy style. I have no doubt that folks love to sit and enjoy the atmosphere of your home. Is it hard to get them to leave sometimes?
Hugs, Cindy
Cindy! How good to hear from you. As you know, you are frequently on my mind and in my thoughts & prayers. Yes, we have been known to laughingly use a line we once heard, "Honey, let's go to bed so these fine people can go home." :)
DeleteHmmm, read your posts and commented on the furniture on the previous on instead of here. Anyhow, I think your room looks cosy and inviting. Hope you had a nice luncheon.
ReplyDeleteDarla
:) Sure DID, Darla!
DeleteI love your furniture as is, we also have it in Wood color, hubby likes it that way and hates painting them, specially if they're antiques. Hey, if the tables fit, more power to you and so cozy for guests to be close to each other too! I love your chairs and the entire kitchen area. You did a lovely job arranging the settings.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend sweet lady.
FABBY
Wow! Very pretty! And what your husband did with that table - I am IMPRESSED.
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful . Its an evolved style by the looks of it , so many lovely things , cosy , comfy and cottagey , love it xxx
ReplyDeleteMy first visit to your blog. I have natural wood, too, and really do like it. Besides, the most important thing is to feel comfortable in your home, and make others feel that way too. I think your room looks very cozy and homey. I copied the poem "Let Me Grow Lovely" from your sidebar into my journal. I love it.
