Hubby is out of town, so yesterday I gifted myself with some leisurely strolls

through a couple of thrift stores...

 two of my Favorite Thrift Stores, in fact!

 Here's looking at what I brought home with me.

 I'm especially fond of this fabric "throw".  The colors don't show up as brightly 

as they are in person  For only $.75, I think it is my favorite purchase of the day.

Seldom do I pass up an Ideals Christmas if it is in good condition.

This one was!

What an "Ideal" outing for so little money.

This was only $.30!  I googled it and then realized what a great find it was!

for a quarter...

In spite of its flaws I couldn't pass it up for a quarter.

I've tried to find another like it on Google images.

So far, no luck.

It's heavy.  I thought ironstone perhaps.

It's blue and white.  That's a winning combination in MY opinion.

Additional information welcomed!

Changing the subject a bit,

we sold the second of two "sofa tables" my husband constructed out of an old dinner table.

They really DID turn out beautifully with their pale grey painted "body"

and natural wood tops.

I wonder what project he'll work on next????

 We should have checked what time this thrift store opened.

Arrived an hour too early, so we went to a Goodwill.

Then back to THIS one where a line had formed.

I exited a few minutes later with a dozen of these mid-century plates

in fantastic condition.

That was all.

Bigs and Smalls

 He's already "on" the BIG...

and I'm "on" the smalls--

 Taking off price stickers,

 washing the glass,

 digging out the candle wax,

 and photographing, of course!

Do you see a squirrel on this little pottery bowl?

I do...and I'm lovin' it!

I hadn't been to a thrift store in quite awhile, but yesterday

I left early to go to my no-longer-Red-Hats luncheon in order to 

check out one I hadn't visited in a long time.

What fun I had.

aftermath

These two photos could be titled "Aftermath".

They show a little bit of what followed

a successful Ladies' Tea at our church last Saturday.

My tablecloths (above) were only a few of those incorporated in the table coverings.

And the snack trays & cups  (below) were what I loaned 

to help provide place settings for about 70 ladies.

Of course, all of these items were thrift store finds for me

so when I dropped a stack of the snack trays, I wasn't out too much $$$ when

four of them broke on our driveway...!

It isn't necessary to spend huge sums of money to set attractive tables

at home or for special events such as this was...

keeping it simple this sunday morning

 





Today, in my black and white,
I should blend in nicely
with the keyboard I'll be playing....
Simple and all thrift store purchases --
even the opaque black legware!

(I removed the black necklace that
criss-crossed the scarf in the bottom photo.
It wasn't working.  Obviously.)

My outfit also goes along with the "trifle" I made for our small group's meeting last night!

Though the layers were blurred,

it WAS delicious.

I borrowed my sister's trifle server and think I might 

keep my eyes peeled for one at a thrift store for myself!

I've got all KINDS of ideas about how to use it.

venturing beyond familiar

 Saturday, my husband and I ventured beyond "familiar" into our neighbor state - Ohio.

Thrifting and lunch was our agenda.

At one shop (Lima, OH), after we had selected clothes from the 75% off rack,

I was told we could have had 6 items for $1.00!

I was running out of time, so just took the 4 items I had for $1.00.

The Lee jeans above and the leopard print shirt at the bottom were two of them.

 At another store in another town (Delphos), I found these dishes for $.25 each.

 I'll use them in place of greeting cards--

maybe with a few brownies or cookies.

I found the jacket I'm modeling in the first photo at this shop, too.
I just love the "lines" on its back.
My husband came home with a pair of shoes and a couple of shirts, too.

It was both entertaining and productive to "Venture Beyond Familiar"!

Oh!  I almost forgot this white planter

which fits nicely with my collection

of white planters and ironstone.  Twenty-five cents, too.

the deeper....the more

The DEEPER I dig (in my closet and drawers)

 the MORE I find that was waiting for me to get back-to-size!

This morning that means a pair of jeans & a blouse with flared sleeves

and happy pattern!  

Everything thrifted years ago!

Shoes included.

 And how about this sweetly decorated cigar box?!?

 Pretty OUTSIDE and INSIDE.

Found last Saturday at the $2/bag sale at the Church Rummage Sale.

These, too.  A set of 6.

the price was right

 We went for a recreational visit to My Favorite Thrift Store yesterday.

I found three Royal Copenhagen Christmas plates...

I "lost" the picture of the third--a hunter with his hunting hound.

 The color was right; the season was right; the price was right!

This non-Copenhagen plate was with the lot.

It was all "right", too.

And the brass angel ornament came home with us also.

 It was a great day at my Favorite Thrift Store (FTS) yesterday!

The cabinet above housed a Singer sewing machine with all the attachments.

I'll be calling today about the possibility of repair.  

If financially feasible, I'll have it done.

If not, this sweet cabinet will be great for a computer station.  

My capable husband will do the repairs - including new glass for the doors.

$5.00!

 These four bowls will be a gift for a friend who is "doing" her kitchen in black and red...

...and Christmas cometh!

 With the purchase and placement of this "A" frame, 

Santa's workshop on one side of the 3rd story of my largest dollhouse is complete!
(Note the Christmas plaid on the lower part of the walls.)

I have two more items to show from yesterday's excursion.

Half a Dollar

 Friday, I checked out two church rummage sales--my favorite kind of sale...

I spent a total of $9.00.

This heavy, ironstone bowl was far and away my favorite purchase.

All fifty cents of it!
Half a dollar still has purchasing value.

It's about 9" in diameter...

It will definitely find a place in my stepback cupboard!

farewell to september

 I like to have a supply of unique plates on which to place 

cookies or brownies, etc. to deliver to friends on special occasions

(or for no reason at all)!

One of my friends collects cardinals.  

I may hold on to THIS one (below) to give as a Christmas gift!

It's a 1974 Avon piece...

I think the dogwood blossoms are especially beautiful.

 Finding blue and white pieces 

to augment our "everyday" dishware always makes me happy...

so I was DOUBLY happy Friday.

As soon as I saw the tablecloth in Halloween colors,

I grabbed it! It's good-sized and a a good feeling fabric.

It should hold up to many washings.

In the clothing department, my husband scored a pair of Sass shoes,

and I came away with this denim skirt.

It was a fine ending to September 2011. 

We celebrated the 41st anniversary of our engagement (a day early)

with a lovely lunch and a successful shopping day at

my favorite thrift store.
