her new kitchen

Our youngest daughter sent us these photos of her "new" kitchen.
I've posted them primarily for myself - wanting to get larger views
than my cell phone screen afforded me.
I'm proud of hmeer husband and her.
This is the first home they've actually owned.
They've been busy painting these cupboards,
and she's looking forward to the installation of an attractive backsplash soon.
Our OTHER daughter recently moved into a "new" old home, too.
Soon I hope to see photos of their kitchen which is currently being painted.
I'm sad that I don't live closer to them.
I'd be there in a blink (though recovering from hip replacement, I'd not be much help...)

my rooster lamp

This morning, I cleared out the bottom right cupboard of our kitchen island.
I helped my husband place the rugs underneath it
so we could slide it without
 scratching the floor.
Enter the electrician who drilled the hole in the floor
and lots of other dirty work in the crawl space below it
which I had no interest in documenting...
I confirmed the placement of the electrical box...
and it was installed - enabling the placement and lighting of this rooster lamp.
(My husband wrote the check for what is my belated Christmas and birthday present.)
I'm thrilled.
The lamp was painted by my grandmother years and years and years ago.
It is a treasure to me and fits right in with my "fowl" decor
in our kitchen and dining area (see previous post).

rescued, repaired & rearranged

 Rescued and repaired, the swan.
Red candles from years gone by, rearranged
and placed on a silver platter.
Most everything in these photos was purchased at a thrift store!
This kitchen corner was rearranged when I placed my canisters
on the newly thrifted shelf.  I'm still figuring out what to put in the two rattan drawers.

This evening I found some white ornaments to hang on the white tree
that sits in front of the window atop the gate-leg table found at a garage sale this summer...
,,,and on a shelf in the dining area of our kitchen,
this sweet nativity, a gift from a friend.

Meet and Greet

 - Just so you don't give up on me -
Our grandchildren were visiting.
That's where my energy and time have been spent--
and spent is a good word for it!
I was the "designated driver" one afternoon
as my two daughters and 3 of the 5 grandchildren
went garage-saling.
We also stopped at a small thrift store where I purchased
eight blue-tinted drinking glasses.
I like to keep a good supply - don't even care if all the patterns match--
just so they're blue and glass.
These were in perfect condition (even though the one on the left appears smudged).
After a day of rest, I should be back in good blogging form again...
OH!  And "hello" to my latest FOLLOWERS!
(I must have been driving to garage sales
when I got my 100th FOLLOWER.)
I'll be around to Meet & Greet soon.

can opener

Of many miscellaneous "treasures" I found yesterday while checking out
thrift stores in Franklin N.C., this was the most unusual.
It cost me twenty-five cents.  It took a man to figure out it was a
manual can opener.  (I liked it 'cause of the wooden handle and turner.)
We tried it out this morning on a can of pineapple.  It works!
I realize now it is the only item I photographed.
This excursion was unique because my brother tagged along.
He wanted to see how I conducted my treasure quests.
As it turned out, he could spend a lot of time in even
one box of kitchen utensils (not to mention at the bookshelves)!

It was a fun day.
But I also realize that shopping alone is quicker
than shopping with another person.
Do YOU prefer shopping alone or with someone else?

what was i thinking?

All thrifted, of course.
I tell myself, "This way, I can bake a pie and present it as a gift along with the pie plate."
The problem with that is:  I'm not a pie-baker.
What's bugging me is that I know I have at least one other--
a CorningWare piece that matches my other CorningWare.
(This train of thought started with a friend's facebook comment..
See here if you're curious.)

my christmas/birthday gifts

After the furniture was moved back into our kitchen/dining room, I told my husband that I'd love to have the mirror over the mantel painted white for my birthday present.   He went out to the garage and primed it, painted it before he went to bed, and hung it this morning.  I am SO blessed!  The floors for Christmas and this beautiful vignette for my birthday!

If you want to see a few more photos of the (mostly) finished room, they are HERE!

Merry Christmas, Friends!
It's been a highly unusual season for us.  Yesterday, THIS was our pre-Christmas scenery...
By the end of today we will be admiring our new laminate floors and possibly will have moved our appliances, kitchen island, and dining room furniture back into the room.

After seeing the process, I'm VERY thankful we weren't SO "thrifty" as to decide to do this job ourselves.  We really appreciate the professionals who have been courteous and have cleaned up after themselves so well.  Our floors were quite unlevel - as much as 2".  With the leveling, we won't have to use shims under every piece of furniture as we did before!  Stay tuned for our new, improved thrifty kitchen style update!
