bazaar-ing
Doors opened at the first Bazaar at 8:00. I was up and ready before light dawned!
My friend arrived, and we started our Holiday Bazaar tour,
beginning with one in our small village
and then to two others in a nearby small town.
While the main items were homemade crafts and baked goods,
I was ecstatic to find several curtain panels
made of vintage barkcloth (above).
Children in the Sunday School at one church made nativity ornaments like the one above
which was worth the price just for the pattern!
I think I'm going to have supplies with me when we meet with our 11 grandchildren
later this month so that each one can

The way home took us past a large moving sale.
The frame was on the free table right inside the entrance.
I grabbed it!
And though not a strong cake-baker,
I couldn't pass up these two vintage cake carriers.
($1 each)
The beautiful pink table cloth has only one small flaw in it.
Half a dollar purchased much pink pleasure.
And the vintage Jim Bean decanter matches another one I have
packed away SOMEwhere here at Gatescroft...
Finally, this retro chair caught my eye. It was almost free!

Bazaar-ing with a friend was a great way to spend a cloudy, autumn morning!

There IS a lot of pink in our second and smaller bathroom.
Shelves above the window and door hold some...
the walls are filled with it,
and the vintage scale picks up the hue!
A recent wash and fluff of these two unmatched rugs resulted in
thick and plush pink,
while the vintage waste-can wears its pink proudly.
A pink pottery piece is the perfect place to stick a few sample bottles of hand lotion;
and an open shelf in a repurposed dresser holds some vintage, pink-patterned towels.
It actually didn't BEGIN with "pinkness",
but somehow it ended up that way!
Jig Saw Puzzles
I bought this vintage (probably from the 50s) 29 cent puzzle for 25 cents
at a thrift store last week,

wondering whether or not all the 304 pieces were "there"...
They ARE!
(But though the pieces were larger than most of today's puzzles, they were cut differently.
It was not the breeze to put together that I thought it would be!)

Better than Starbucks
For less than a cup of coffee
I satisfied myself with some thrift store shopping this morning!
I'm thinking I'll paint the sunburst with a bright color
and add it to the side of our shed.
I was surprised to find this vintage toy in such great condition AND in its original box!
But by far, my greatest excitement was over this vintage fabric!
It actually was one panel of a drapery with pleats at the top.
I removed the pleats, cut it carefully down the center, stitched up the edge,
and created a pocket for the free shower curtain rod I'm using here above our kitchen sink!
I've been searching for just the right fabric at just the right price
for quite awhile. This works just fine!

Purchased years ago in a thrift store - just because it had "potential"
and hidden charm - it silently occupied a corner of the garage.
Well, no more!
Look at all the storage!
(And that's a clothes hamper at the bottom!)
We deliberately left the old decal and a bit of original paint
to honor its vintage state.
a fowl collection
I'm getting ready to go and see my grandsons. I've packed in one of three pieces of my vintage luggage set and am dressed comfortably for travel. EVERYTHING thrifted, of course.
Before I go, I wanted to show you a couple of pieces in my fowl collection...
The turning of the calendar page reminded me to add turkeys to my fowl display.
I am trying to remember where I got these two. I believe the green one was a gift to me and may be a Morton Pottery piece. My uncle's family ran the pottery years ago...and it seems to me someone who knew this wanted me to have it. (I really SHOULD write things down.)
BROWN MEETS BLUE
Navy vintage dress with animal print belt and scarf and brown shoes...
It is still cool outside, so I'll wear this brown blazer for warmth.
(All items were purchased in thrift stores.)I'm sure I don't have to tell you that my routine is to take pictures BEFORE combing my hair and applying make-up (the little I wear)! It's not until AFTER taking the picture that I know if I'm going to stick with the outfit or not. Someday, I'll photograph the finished product and try to smile.
I like everything about this thrifted jacked that has been in my closet for years! The vintage style, covered buttons, color and fit....I'm wearing it with earrings (black & white stones) given to me by a friend..
Worn with this black & white patterned skirt and a lace top it brings color and warmth to my Sunday morning outfit.
Black belt and shoes complete my Sunday School teacher look.
Texas Ware Plates
SEE WHAT $4.50 BOUGHT!
Among the other things $4.50 bought yesterday: a brand new Christmas candle shaped like a log, a bunch of unused red candles, three tiny (and I mean TINY) reindeer, a vintage Fisher Price airport sans accessories, a unique nickle-plated piggy bank, two blue and white cups/mugs (one Delfts), a small vintage pillow, and a Holly Hobbie 1973 commemorative Christmas plate. Actually, there were several other items in my basket, too! Merry Christmas to me!
This scarf has many beautiful colors in it....My simple camera doesn't do them justice.
Here are a few of the other items I brought home with me for the unbelievable price of $4.50 plus tax.
