However light the current decorating trends may take us,
I remain charmed by the dark side.
Sitting in my rocking chair this morning before the sun rises,
I am more at home than ever with my dark wood, candles, books,
and simple furniture.
Accessories, recently re-curated, catch my eye
as I sit back with a fresh cup of coffee
to enjoy the dark side a wee bit before the day turns busy.
the room looks beautiful with the dark wood and the floral curtains. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda!
DeleteJust found your blog through FlowerLady's Musings blog! Your dark, vintage room is so cozy - very "old English". I paint a lot of things white but I still enjoy the warmth of my dark furniture.
ReplyDeleteWe actually DO have a few white-painted pieces, too. In fact, just painted two bookcases white - 'specially to fit into two of our rooms with white woodwork. But when there is beautiful hardwood to be enjoyed, I say, "Yes"! It's so good to meet you.
DeleteIt isn't dark...it is warm and comforting! I like wood too. The present trend to chrome and steel and gray make me feel cold and alone.
ReplyDeleteI know! Me, too!
DeleteIn my opinion dark wood pieces are are wonderful. My husband and I have always like wood, walnut, oak, mahogany, teak. I cringe when I see some of the lovely old wooden pieces being painted the way they are these days. They lose some of their value and their lovely old patinas. Oh well, to each his own.
ReplyDeleteYour room looks comfy and inviting and a wonderful place to rest and contemplate.
Have a great week dear Rebecca ~ FlowerLady
I think you already know how much I love the cottage you and your husband crafted. It's so good to have connected with like-minded folk like you ♥
DeleteYou have created a warm and cozy space. It seems so welcoming. I like a darker room as long as I have a good light next to a comfortable chair where I can read or knit.
ReplyDeleteExactly - I agree about the good light! (These photos don't show that so much...I didn't use the flash and they all came out rather dark.)
DeleteOur place has tinted windows -- guess the owner did it for privacy and to help with the heat -- so it's always dark around here. I like it but freaks some people out.
ReplyDeleteSigh.., warm and cozy. I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteOur home is on the "dark side", too. Our daughter is trying to "farmhouse" their home and as much as I like it, it's just not me. I'll stick to what makes me feel more at home!! I think your home is lovely. I'd be really comfy there.
