gifts ~ not from the sea

I almost never pass up a copy of this book when I find it.
Not only do I try to reread it every year,
I pass it on enthusiastically to friends.
It will be a birthday gift to a special friend.
(I hope I haven't already given her a copy!)
I found THIS copy today during a morning of thrift store shopping...
In another store (where prices were noticeably higher than during our last visit),
my husband held this one up for me to see at the end of an aisle.
HE had seen only a sweet, framed doily.
I, on the other hand, saw the NAME.
It, too will be a gift - anniversary - to a special couple.
I don't think either one of them read this blog.
I hope not!
Isn't it charming?!?

    1. Yes, I DO know you share my ♥ for the book. It was a fun day. My husband found a couple of pair of jeans; I got a 4"x6" picture frame to replace a broken one, etc. The fun was in the search.

  2. love the doily. forgot today was thrifting day. I went to the store at 4:30 and saw plenty of yard sale signs out, but too late today. Love that your hubby goes with you.

    1. Some couples "date"...we "thrift". We both enjoy it. (Usually end up sharing a meal out, too!)

  3. What a wonderful gift to give a friend! I would love to find one of our name, but seeing as how it is very unusual, I highly doubt that I ever will. I've never read the book, I would love to see one and pick it up at a sale.
Have a good Lord's Day! And thanks so much for your sweet comment today. I appreciate it. It's a hard job, but so necessary.

    1. Cindy, E-mail me your address and I'll send you a copy. gatesmc@juno.com. (Our daughter married a Smith. Such a common name. Hard to name a child a name that 100 - or 1,000 - people don't already have!) :)

  4. Hi Rebecca....Gift from the Sea is keeper. One of my favorite books of all time!

The little "Smith" doily is delightful. I assume your friends have the lst name "Smith." They'll love it.

    Take care. Susan

  5. The book is one of my favorites also. It is a book I can pick up and read bits and pieces from from time to time. How wonderful that the doily is so perfect for your daughter.
