thrifting in murphy

A beautiful drive on this sunny day through the Natahala Gorge took us to Murphy N.C.
While hubby golfed, I hit the thrift stores - and there were several.
In the first one, I found the piece of pottery (above) which I adore for its "naive" quality,
shape and size.  Lying in it are the earrings I bought.
They appear to have been locally made (there are many crafters & artisans in the area).
Just in side the entrance to another store, there was a huge bin of books
offered for 10 cents each.  It took me awhile, but I came up with these treasures.
Do I need one more book?  No!
But I couldn't leave THIS one (below) behind.
A vintage Golden Book in quite good condition!
Elsewhere in North Carolina, but a few days ago,
I found THESE....
...a needle-worked picture of a red-roofed, cozy cottage and another piece of pottery--
both of which fit small collections I have back home.

  3. Great things to find...ear rings, quite different. Books! Great price. I see Rod McKuen...did you read him in the 70's? I remember the books and LPs where he read his own work. Wonder what happened to him?

    1. Yes, Bookie! I had some of his LPs. "The Sea" was one of those and for the life of me I can't remember the other! One of these 10-cent books is about E.B. White. I can't wait to read it. (It's the old one with the indistinguishable title.....)

  4. Once again you picked some winners. That last piece of pottery looks like it could from one of the well known makers. Any pottery marks?

  8. I love the cross stitched picture with the red roofed cottage, that's adorable.
Did I tell you that we were and still are thinking of moving to NC? There is a church that needs a pastor and my husband and I are still thinking and praying about it.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  10. I have an idea to decorate a wall with some vintage Little Golden Books. I wonder if it will ever go beyond an idea...
Some good finds you have there!

    1. :) If I HAD an empty wall, I'd love to put up a piece of trim (like they use to stand paintings on and change them out) and put books on it - like art!

I hope you put your idea into motion so I can see it, Judy!
