I spent a couple of hours of Recreational Reading
at Barnes and Noble yesterday afternoon.
As much as I enjoy the pleasures of blogging,
there's STILL something about paging through a magazine....

My "take-home" were these photographic notes to myself
with ideas of how to incorporate a few of my existing accessories
into Christmas decorating this year.
I sold many of my brass candle holders this past year.
I THINK I might have enough
to hold a few of the vintage tree toppers I have
(if I can find them - candle holders AND tree toppers).
I'm going to be on the lookout for stray goblets.
I thought this assemblage was simply gorgeous...

One other idea I gleaned was to stick some fresh greens
into artificial wreaths.
(This one appealed to me since I have many artificial wreaths
and little extra money for fresh.)

How will YOU be incorporating existing accessories into your Christmas decor?
I love the display of vintage tree toppers on candlesticks. That makes such a pretty display and so unusual! I would love to do something like that.
ReplyDeleteLove those collected glasses too, Rebecca. They are easy to pick up at flea markets. I use them for candles, gives of nuts, etc. Then I pile them up under my hutch too! Our friends aren't wine drinkers or really goblet users either, but occasionally I pop some out anyway. I often give in to the easy trend of paper plates too. A friend told me she has a set of clear plates that she sits over pretty paper plates, thus getting the changing beauty of color but not wasting paper. Interesting I thought.
ReplyDeleteI thought of serving apple cider in them, etc.
Deletethe goblet idea struck home with me. so pretty. I saw recently someone used them to make candles. Empty or full, they are lovely.
ReplyDeleteHello Rebecca......I have a Christmas wreath that I use annually. It's always pretty, festive and doesn't cost me a dime.
ReplyDeleteI have so many decorations in the attic that I just kind of alternate...some some years and others other years. Looks like I went out and bought new ones but I didn't! ha! Susan
:) I have tons of stuff in the attic, too. Last year I didn't even go UP there :)
DeleteWith no one here but the three of us this year, we are decorating lightly. Probably just the tree and door wreath. I love the goblets and what a nice touch. I am not going up in the attic this year either.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking just a few strands of white lights somewhere and not even a tree :) Probably a wreath or two.....
DeleteYou gleaned some great ideas for us from those magazines. I have lots of goblets, I wish I had lots of tree toppers. I am anxious to see what you come up with when you decorate.
ReplyDeleteDarla
It will be very simple, Darla. (And I wish I had a few more tree toppers, too!) Re. the goblets, I think I'll use this idea instead of "matchy-matchy" glasses this year.
DeleteI love the vintage tree toppersX AnnieX
ReplyDeleteSpending a few hours at B and N is a great thing to do!!! And I never thought to take pics of what I like -- how clever!
ReplyDeleteHi my dear! Loving these photos, so very inspiring and really puts one into a festive mood! xxx
ReplyDeleteOkay. What magazine was the tree topper idea in? I am trying not to purchase any new Christmas magazines this year. And, my decorating will have to be scaled back due to the number of grandchildren spending time with me during the week. But, those TREE TOPPERS! Sigh.., I'll be dreaming about those tonight...
