a simple habit

My weekend delight is the simplicity of clean counters.
For some, that may not be a "biggie",
but it has  been a challenge for me the majority of my life.
For the past 19 days, I've been faithful at cleaning off counters
and keeping up with the dishes.
What a difference it makes in my mind and emotions!
I believe I have 2 more days before this becomes
an official habit.
Guess it's about time.
Is there a simple habit that YOU'D like to establish
yet in your lifetime????

  1. Me too, Rebecca....I love a clean kitchen. Alas, mine seems to be getting more cluttered the older I get. Something about putting grandchildren's pictures about that I love as well as a few "treasures" that I think I have to have. Your habit of cleaning before you go to bed is a perfect idea. I have gone back to work full time so I seem to be leaving more in the sink lately....and having less time to blog. Boo-Hoo.

  2. My mother in law could leave every pot and pan she owned in the kitchen sink at night. I can't. It might be clean, clean but kitchen needs to be straight. Last night I irritated hubby by having him reach a jar away to top shelf...thought it could wait until morning...I did now want to walk in at dawn and see it! A little OCD, I know.

Don't tell me you put those Blue Willow canisters away somewhere hidden though!

    1. No. The blue willow canister is still there. Just no dirty dishes left out waiting for when there are a few more to do or papers, books, keys, ANYTHING that used to get stacked or laid there waiting for a better place to go!

  3. Oh Rebecca ~ That is the habit I want to make. It just feels so wonderful when the kitchen is all clean when you go in to it in the morning. You've inspired me.

  4. Good job Rebecca!
I do like to have things neat & tidy.
My nightly goals in the kitchen are:
    1) table totally cleaned off
    2) no dishes in sink
    3) glass top stove clean
I think if I lived by myself it would stay mostly tidy & clean.
....And if NO cooking was done in the kitchen.LOL
    Take care,
    Nancy

    1. Yep! That's basically what I've been doing, Nancy. And I have the same thoughts sometime - that if I lived by myself it would stay tidy and clean.... But when I'm honest with myself, I know that's not so.

  5. We were on the same thought wave this morning! We use the bowls in the kitchen cabinet often but I had them in an awkward place to get to and, while moving them, I re-arranged the whole area! (This is not as impressive as it sounds since I do live in a fifth wheel and my space is small:-) Good for you. . .enjoy the weekend!

    1. And good for YOU! Sometimes I long to live in a smaller space - yes, even a fifth wheel. I think it would keep me more simple.

  6. I have been in the habit of cleaning my kitchen, including the stove top every evening. It is just so nice coming into a clean kitchen in the morning. Now, if I could just get my pantry clean and organized better, that would be nice!

  7. My hubby would love for me to develop this habit. He snacks a lot at night. I generally just take his snack plates, glasses, other dishes etc and stack them on the counter over the dish washer. They are usually there waiting for me when I get home from work.......LOL. But I clean up before I cook dinner and right after dinner. I wipe all the counters down and put away any clutter that happened to land there during the day.

  8. I love clean counters as well. Especially before bedtime so it is nice and clean for the morning when you wake up and I agree what a difference it makes ~Enjoy your weekend Love Heather

  9. Eh. I am sooo bad at keeping my kitchen picked up.

  10. I'd love to develop that habit but I think I'm genetically predisposed to being messy and maximalist! x

    1. Oh, Vix! Me, too. But (for me) there was just something about the piles that accumulated on "my" kitchen counter! I could tolerate them about so long...and then my head exploded thinking about going through the piles.

  11. Mine are clean about 75% of the time. I grew up in a home where they were clean and clear 100% as my dad was mr. drill sgt. and inspected each night the work my brother's and I did after dinner. I purposely designed our home so that you can't see the kitchen when I greet someone at the front door ;)

  12. Oh, yeah. I love a clean counter and yours looks spic and span and charming, too.

  13. My problem is I'm so exhausted at the end of the day that I don't always have the pots and pans done. I do try to get the dishes into the dishwasher though and that helps. I am usually up so early that I try to finish anything left from the night before then, before the new day really starts. One good habit I try to keep up with is running the dishwasher before bedtime, then early the next morning emptying it so that all day long I am re-loading it with the dirty dishes as we use them. If I lapse and don't get the clean ones out, my counter quickly fills up with the day's dirty dishes :(
