A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. James Keller
I need to remember to LIGHT them and to not buy ANY more!
I don't think I've EVER bought a candle in a retail store.
(I've been GIVEN some brand new ones,
but I think any candle I have paid for has been purchased in a thrift store.)

I'm working daily on my stash!! We can *do* this!
ReplyDeleteYou are set if there's a power outage, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI like candles but I always worry about burning the house down. I do like small scented ones in the bathroom and I put them on the counter in an area they won't get accidently touched or bumped over.
Darla
You DO have a bunch of candles!
ReplyDeleteI loved candles and still burn them occasionally. Candles in winter are soothing; candles are spiritual in nature, the smoke carrying dreams, hopes and prayers to Heaven.
However, a few years ago we helped our son buy a house where candles were lit constantly. When we took possession and began to clean--shock! The walls, esp around the plugs and furance registers, the ceiling, even the door of the refrigerator, everything was covered in film of gray. We never noticed until we took a cleaning sponge and learned we were making a real mess. Then two years later, my parents home burned. No, not because of a candle but the smell of smoke, sight of flame never seemed the same after that time.
Bookie, I've not noticed the grey film yet, but I can see it happening. Actually, I don't burn candles all that much - just have a lot! I like the IDEA of candles but forget to light them.
ReplyDeleteANOTHER collection to whittle down!
I light candles every night (even in summer) and am always keeping an eye out at thrift stores for 'new' ones. It's incredible that people give away brand new candles or light them once and then give them away.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have purchased candles in thrift stores to be melted down to make new or multiple candles. We have kept bees and have been known to spend an afternoon dipping wicks into the grade B wax. The grade A can be swapped for beekeeping supplies.
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca....I LOVE candles, too. My faves are Yankee and Village. There was also one called something like Aveda, or something like that. It was divine. What's your favorite scene? Susan
ReplyDeleteI've burned candles forever almost daily. I've never noticed a grey film developing ~ We always burn a scented one in the bathroom ~ air freshners just don't agree with me. Maybe everyone can see the film but me?? or maybe those former homeowners were burning something other than candles ~ like incense, cigarettes, cigars, or um...something illegal? I do try to be very careful with the candles though, especially with the grandchildren here so much.
ReplyDeleteLike you...I love 'em, I light 'em, and then I lay 'em in a drawer and forget 'em! Today at my card store they were giving pairs away so I have two more!
ReplyDeleteMy candles get dusty - I never use them. I'm donating my stash except for emergency ones.
ReplyDeleteSince posting this a day or so ago, I've given a few away.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and I love thrifting too. I collect alphabet books and other miscellaneous finds. Right now I am on a kick collecting Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars for our little twin grandsons. It is addicting. Thanks for sharing.
