Simply Me

I've decided that I'm a complex person with a simple style.  I am a HUGE fan of some very unique individuals when it comes to the subject of wardrobes.  I'm most fascinated by people like Vix and Sheila.   Believe me when I say I've TRIED to be more daring and creative in my style of dress!

Most recently, I've discovered Ember of the Quiet Way.  Her August 30th post explaining her wardrobe choices and related links to others on her blog are intriguing to me.  (I'm also drawn in by her path to personal simplicity, AND I've  put in a request at our local library for The Hawk and The Dove trilogy which she's written! )

However, no matter how much I try, I am Simply Me when it comes to style.  Even if I deviate occasionally, I return to my basic long, straight skirts with tee shirts.  Usually these are purchased at a thrift store - as is the case with the beige skirt I'm wearing here.  The tee, however, was purchased at a very good sale price at a "real" store over  10 years ago!!!!

What can I say?  I am Simply Me.

Here I am.  Ready to meet friends for breakfast on this rainy Saturday morning.   My feet are almost bare so I can enjoy stepping into a puddle or two...

  1. Sometimes we develop our own style and don't realize it. I wore scarves for years (before this phase of long trailing ones)even when others did not. A friend said to me one day how much she thought of a scarf when she thought of me...I did not realize I had a "style". Also I wore a lot of pins a la Albright and never thought about it until the kids started calling me "The Pin Teacher".

    1. I think that's SO true, Pin Teacher! (Sounds like a good name for a blog!)

  2. I rarely deviate from "my" style, which, since I no longer have a professional job, is jeans and nice tees. I recently bought a tee with some "bling", because it was on clearance. I'm not sure I will feel okay wearing it though. If we are comfortable and like who we are, following trends will not be necessary.

    1. I agree, Nancy! I've lost a little weight and it's time to go find some good fitting jeans. Then I'll wear jeans and tees more often, too. (I just postpone doing this 'cause I dislike the trying on process....

  3. I had to ramp up my style with my move to Florida. I had become quite complacent but now that I live near my mother and sisters, all of whom dress quite nicely, I feel the need to rise to the occasion. It's quite tiresome at times!

    1. Jeanne, I can imagine that might get tiresome at times. I've just about given up "rising to occasions". Every once in awhile, I still do :)

  5. Lol Rebecca I feel much of the same I love Sheila and Vix's blog they have great style. I keep trying to spice up my wardrobe some but I always fail miserably especially in the accessory department. I do love the classics though and I think there is still some boldness now a days behind being simple. You look lovely ~Heather

  6. Being yourself makes for a "real" and comfortable person...both in your skin and clothing Rebecca. I admire that and try to do the same. You look great!!

  7. My husband loves soft romantic dresses on me. I have always been just a jeans and t-shirt lady, or sweaters in cold weather. So simple. So relaxed. I say enjoy what makes you comfortable. You look lovely. And how did you possibly get that shirt to last ten years??! No matter the brand, I find five years the max before a shirt starts to lose it's shape, color, etc.

  8. The most important thing is the fact that you are being "you"--unique, special, and lovely in your long skirt and Tee!
    Enjoyed all your blogs!

  11. I think it is nice to know what style suits best, what you are most comfortable in. I too look at fashion blogs that are more creative or "risky" than my own style. It is just fun to see what is out there.

  12. It is very liberating to know your style and stick to it. It also takes a confident woman not to cave in to every fleeting fashion whim. Case in point, I've been purging like mad, getting rid of the "what was I thinking" stuff. Sally Ann will benefit from my mistakes.
