pfalzgraff

Many years ago, my parents gave each of us girls a basic set of Pfaltzgraff dinnerware - our choice of patterns. I chose  Heritage.. I've not been sorry. (I had forgotten the name of the pattern but looked it up when someone asked me recently.)

Pfaltzgraff Pottery was founded in 1811 by German potters in Pennsylania. Pfaltzgraff started making dinnerware in the late 1940's . The longest running pattern has been Heritage, designed by George Briad. This first was introduced in 4 colors: Bennington Brown, Williamsburg Green, Burnt Olive, and York White. York White is what we now refer to as Heritage. In the early 1960's, the business was renamed The Pfaltzgraff Company. In 2005 the company was sold to Lifetime Brands, and Pfaltzgraff patterns are now manufactured overseas.
One of my sisters also selected Heritage.
It's nice to share when one or the other of us needs extra pieces to serve a larger group.
I happily pick up additional pieces of Heritage at thrift stores when I see them reasonably priced.

I've found Heritage to be a most versatile pattern.
It blends nicely with other white ironstone in my collection.
I think it's well-named!
I'd like to think that it may be passed down to one of our children
who will appreciate its traditional simplicity.

  1. I used to have the blue set...mistake, I should have gotten the white...I might even still have them if I would have done that. I do have white ones now...Love yours.

  2. The Heritage set is so versatile and it's nice that your sister has the same pattern. I used to have the tan/brown set and got rid of it. I agree with Terry - shoulda got the white ones. I do love that chair...is that a tapestry fabric?

  3. Yes, Donna - it IS a tapestry pattern. I never get tired of it. I read that the Yorktowne pattern is the most popular. It's the gray background with blue flowers. (My mother has THAT one & I like it, but it isn't as versatile.)

  4. That is very pretty china, Rebecca. I like it better than the Village pattern. Very attractive. Susan

  5. Once again, a similar cord in our life's music! I have a set of these dishes in white too. I have not used them much, as I set them back for "good". I enjoy all dishes and use others, mostly Blue Willow, for everyday.

  6. Wow. I had actually forgotten about my heritage until you reminded me. I too had chosen this pattern when I was married. Unfortunately I didn't get much of it gifted to me and so when a couple of pieces broke I defaulted to a full set of cheaper boxed dishes that I had. At some point my Heritage was completely gone. It's encouraging knowing that you find pieces in thrift stores. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled. Maybe I could finally have a full set. At least by my 50th wedding anniversary. That's in...23 years! Blessings, Debbie

  8. I just plain like Pfaltzgraff! Everyone can find a pattern that fits their own personality. Your Heritage IS so versatile. But I do love my Yorktowne...it is totally me. Let me know if your mom every wants to get rid of any of her pieces!

  9. After years and years of collecting Blue Willow I'm finding myself wanting plain white dishes. Don't know if I can make myself take the plunge but your Heritage is certainly tempting.

  13. I love seeing glimpses of your beautiful home. The dishes are perfect in your hutch. I certainly love the simplicity of the dishes. And the fact that you can use any color of the rainbow with them.
