We went to see it this afternoon. (Here I am with a jacket -- you know how chilly public air-conditioned buildings can be!) See it for the magnificent travelogue that plays side-by-side with the story of a woman's search for herself that takes her to Italy, India, and Bali.
~ Hope you enjoyed the movie ~Heather
ReplyDeleteI really did, Heather. I disagree with the philosophy/theology of the movie but I thought the acting was quite believable and the scenery spectacular!
ReplyDeleteRebecca, just read a review of this movie. I love travelogues. Think I'll check it out. Susan
ReplyDeleteI'm tempted to see Eat, Pray, Love because I've been to all three locations and they were filming last time I was in India. Trouble is that I found the book hateful and the central character totally self-obsessed. Did Julia Roberts make her a little more likeable? xxx
ReplyDeleteVix, With all your travel and life experiences, you could have been the star--seriously! Having never been in any of the three locations, THIS (the travelogue) was what "made" the movie for me. Personally, I think J.R. DID make her a little more likeable - but maybe that wasn't her task. It may have been to accurately portray E.G. Thinking back to yesterday, it was clearly a journey away from self-obsession and she only appeared to have come close right at the end.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I wonder if you wouldn't like it??? Besides the great view of the countries she visited, there are the "interiors" of many exotic houses and buildings...
ReplyDeleteI read the book and had mixed feelings about it, apparently I wasn't the only one. From your review it sounds like the movie might be worth it just for the scenery tho.
ReplyDeleteDarla
The book never appealed to me despite Oprah's strong endorsement! I think I may see the movie however because of its exotic locales. Did you see Julia on Oprah, it was a love fest and Oprah went on and on about the book and how much she loved the movie.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, No. I seldom watch Oprah. I'm kind of glad I didn't see the "love fest"!
ReplyDeleteHi there-wow, mixed reviews here, I may well get the book first before I go and watch the film x
ReplyDeleteI think Roger Ebert gave it 2 stars.
ReplyDeleteHow curious, I spoke to my sister yesterday after she had been whatching that movie :)
ReplyDeleteI guess she enjoyed it...
Thank you so much my dear for your supportive note on my blog. It meant a lot.
