It's always more important to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.
I don't have a 9 to 5 job outside my home. However, it's important TO ME to feel that I'm prepared to meet the public without apology about my personal appearance. Dressing up gives me incentive to keep the house "up" and to take pride in various responsibilities. Dressing up saves time. I don't have to change clothes to go out and have fewer clothes to wash and dry.
Of course, if it's a "dirty work" day, I dress appropriately, but I've found that I can accomplish most household chores while dressed in my typical wardrobe. Aprons are a GREAT invention! Today I'm wearing a Pendleton cranberry colored skirt that I found in a thrift shop yesterday, a white T-shirt from my dresser drawer, and a denim vest. White studded belt and silver earrings complete the look along with navy blue stockings and navy blue shoes.
After seeing the photo, I decided to wear a darker denim jacket instead of the vest. It just seemed that there was too much "white/light color" on the top. Once again, a photo saved the day!

Hi Rebecca....Love your new header! Great job! Hope your day is wonderful. Sincerely, Susan from writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love your new header! I collect floral tole trays, or I did before they got ridiculously expensive.
ReplyDeleteI agree that one should always try to make an effort. However, I have to admit that on my day off I sometimes enjoy taking a "vacation" from doing my make up and hair!
Susan & S.A. I am still bummed that I can't figure out how to actually center that heading. Oh, well.
ReplyDeleteAnd, S.A., I don't wear a lot of makeup (as is probably obvious from my posts) and my hairstyle doesn't require much "doing".
I just stumbled onto your blog and I love it. Thank you for being a 'style icon' for those of younger ladies to look up to. It's really hard to be near 50 and shop. I hate everything in the store. I don't want to look like I'm trying to be 25, but I also don't want to look like I'm an old schoolmarm, either.
ReplyDeleteHi there-love the new header and I too try my best to make an effort to dress up rather than down. I love outfit photos, they really do show you if you need to edit or restyle an outfit!
ReplyDeleteI am so with you, Kathie! We are a monied demographic, you'd think they'd realize that. Thrifting is a great option, as Thrifty Style at Sixty shows us. I'm hoping to improve my thrift-style shopping after reading this blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat an inspiration You are to me!!!... I love your style...
ReplyDeleteTeri, CACHANILLA, and Kathie....
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice to read your comments! Keep 'em coming.
I think the darker jacket probably went better too. The lighter denim might seem too summery...you should have put up and "after picture picture" ha! Like I said the other day, I too fix myself up (usually) at the beginning of the day. For me that means I have to be showered, hair washed, dried, curled and combed, make up on and dressed before 8 am when my grands arrive, or I never get another chance! (Oh and I do 1/2 hr of devotions before 8 as well--we get up at 5 over here!) So like today, which happens to be my b-day, hubby is coming home to take me out to dinner, and with 5 minutes of sprucing up now that the children have gone, I'll be all set. I should have used better judgment yesterday, however. It was a "cleaning" day and I fell off a stool while dusting something up high, and scraped my hip on something sharp, tearing a hole in pants I wasn't ready to throw out yet! I think I'm in the camp that says it's better to be just slightly overdressed than underdressed...like you said, it just makes me feel better!
ReplyDeletePresentable is what I aim for if I have no plans to go out. I've ruined a good many shirts by getting grease spots on them when I'm cooking tho. I guess I need a complete chefs jacket not just an apron.
